Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada seeks a Directing Attorney to head its Consumer Rights Project. The Directing Attorney will lead and manage the civil litigation unit which is dedicated to providing economically vulnerable Nevadans an array of legal services to combat fraud and deceptive trade practices, assist with landlord tenant issues, criminal record sealing, and oversight of the Legal Service Fund program that provides similar services to culinary and bartenders union members.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Directing Attorney will oversee the legal and advocacy work for the Consumer Rights Project and will work with staff to maintain consistently high quality, high impact services. The Directing Attorney will supervise a team of attorneys and advocates to implement the organization’s priorities and ensuring that staff has access to training, supervision, guidance and mentoring.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversight of high-quality and high-impact legal advocacy, service delivery and management.
- Approve, oversee and, where appropriate, participate in complex litigation and appeals.
- Supervise and provide litigation support to legal staff and ensure that lawyers at every level in the program have adequate supervision and opportunities to grow professionally.
- Expand and elevate the Consumer Rights Project’s advocacy work and incorporate best practices to make the project a model among legal services providers.
- Represent the work and vision of Legal Aid Center to partners, stakeholders, the public and the national legal services community.
QUALIFICATIONS
- JD from an accredited law school.
- Current Bar membership in good standing to practice law in any state, Nevada preferred.
- Federal and state litigation experience, including experience with appeals. Experience in areas of practice covered by the Consumer Rights Project highly desirable.
- 10+ years of management experience preferred.
- A genuine passion and deep commitment for the mission of Legal Aid Center.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Experience advocating for policy reform at the state and/or local level.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary range is $85,000.00-$115,000.00 yearly dependent upon experience with annual increases available. Our excellent benefits effective on date of hire include 100% employer paid health insurance for an employee, spouse/legal domestic partner, and dependents up to 26 years old, a generous paid time off policy and flex work options after training is complete. A 403b match dollar for dollar up to 5% of an employee’s salary after 12 months of employment and 12 weeks paid parental leave after one year of employment.
