Associates Coming Together to Help the Community
The Associates Challenge is a week-long competition led by associates at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck where associate attorneys at participating law firms challenge each other to donate at least half the amount of one billable hour, raising money for low-income and vulnerable families to obtain access to justice. To make a donation towards this year's challenge, visit www.lacsn.org/ac24.
This annual competition is important not only because of the contributions raised to benefit Legal Aid Center’s clients, but it also builds a tradition of consistent and generous support for legal services among lawyers. Participating law firms will compete against each other this year for the following awards:
Access to Justice Champions Trophy
Highest Per Capita Associate Gift
This category includes the total amount individually donated by associates at the participating firm, divided by the total number of associates at the firm. The firm with the highest per capita amount wins the right to display the Access to Justice Champions Trophy for the year!
Associates Trophy
Highest Individual Associate Gift
This trophy goes to the associate from a participating firm who donates the highest total amount by the end of the challenge.
The money raised during the 2024 Associates Challenge goes directly to Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. The mission of Legal Aid Center is the preservation of access to justice and the provision of quality legal counsel, advice, and representation for individuals who are unable to protect their rights because they cannot afford an attorney.
-
The Children’s Attorneys Project represents children in foster care to ensure that they are not separated from their siblings, are timely reunited with parents or grandparents, or are adopted sooner.
-
The Education Advocacy Program assists children with disabilities who are struggling in school, advocating for accommodations to ensure their academic success.
-
The Family Justice Project represents victims of domestic violence for protective orders, custody, and family law issues, providing them legal resources to reclaim a life free from violence.
-
The Consumer Rights Project helps families achieve economic stability by resolving legal matters involving fraud, exploitation, predatory auto sales and mechanic issues, and housing.
-
The Guardianship Advocacy Project represents seniors and adults with disabilities who are abused by predators targeting their assets, and we now represent minors in guardianship issues as well.
- The Immigration Advocacy Project aids victims of domestic violence, serious crimes, and trafficking, as well as unaccompanied minors, children in foster care, asylum seekers, and others with immigration matters.
In addition to our dedicated staff of attorneys and legal professionals, we recruit and train lawyers in the legal community to join us in accepting our cases on a pro bono basis. We are the primary legal safety net that changes the lives of low-income, vulnerable people in our community every day. Since 1958, our organization has represented low-income individuals in Clark County with civil legal matters such as domestic violence, fraud against the elderly, representing youth in the child welfare system, and defending working people against scams and financial predators. We become the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves in important legal matters that affect their wellbeing, their future, and even their ability to survive. The cases accepted are based on merit and highest need—victims of domestic violence, children, the elderly, victims of financial predators, active military, and veterans.
We cultivated all of these programs to meet the daunting challenge of providing legal help to the staggering population of residents who qualify for our services. Every day, we make a difference in our community, and we are proud of the infrastructure we have developed to serve those in need.
You can click here to donate in the 2024 Associates Challenge. Thank you for helping us right wrongs and change lives for the most vulnerable people in our community!
