LAS VEGAS - If you are in a dispute with your landlord, a small business or even your neighbor, you need to know your rights, so you can fight back and win.

If you can't afford a lawyer, you may feel destined to lose. That's not the case thanks to a little known place called the Self-Help Center.

The Self-Help Center is located inside the Regional Justice Center. Workers provide free assistance and guidance about any questions you may have.

Topics cover foreclosures, landlord issues, shady mechanics and/or legal rights.

“The Self-Help Center is really a place where someone representing themselves in the Clark County Court system can come and get the tools that they need to access the court system,” said Self-Help Center Director Jim Berchtold. “We want to give you the tools so that you have the information about how the court works and how the law works, so that you can make that decision for yourself.”

That can save you a lot of time, money and effort if you can't afford a lawyer. The Self-Help Center can give you the tools you need to fight, but it cannot provide free legal services.

The Self-Help Center can provide direct access to lawyers who can answer questions for free. The department holds an "Ask-a-Lawyer" program every Thursday at its office.

To learn more about the Self-Help Center, visit the department's website.
