About this event

Nearly all of us will be tenants at some point, but almost none of us know even basic information about a tenant’s rights and the laws that protect us as renters. This class walks through the life of a tenancy from beginning to end and gives you the tools you need to protect yourself. It covers:

  • Legal issues you might face when looking for a new apartment, including signing a lease and paying a security deposit;
  • Legal problems that can arise after you move in, like getting repairs made or needing to terminate the lease early;
  • Legal issues that happen at move out, such as fighting eviction and recovering security deposits; and
  • Much more!

The class is offered both in-person at Legal Aid Center and online through Zoom (be sure to check the bottom of your emails from Eventbrite for the online meeting link). The classes on May 3 and 10, 2024, will be available online only.

In addition to this class, we also offer an Eviction Sealing clinic, which can improve your chances of finding new housing after being evicted, as well as a Landlord/Tenant Ask-A-Lawyer program, during which you can speak with an attorney over the phone for up to 15 minutes.
