Sunny Day Fund

The Sunny Day Fund was established by Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada to cover expenses for everyday activities and supplies so that a child in foster care can have a semblance of normalcy and stability in their life. The fund pays for small but critical requests that are not paid for by the foster family or foster care system. Examples of requests from foster youth include:

  • $130 for a weighted blanket for a foster child with autism
  • $90 for a middle schooler to pay for fees and a uniform to be on the football team
  • $50 for a high schooler’s personal hygiene items
  • $40 for a birth certificate so an older foster youth can get a part-time job

The Sunny Day Fund makes it possible for children in the Clark County foster care system to participate in school activities with their classmates and not be left behind because they can't afford to pay. Legal Aid Center vets every request and authorizes requests that have no other available financer. Funds are generally never given directly to the foster youth.

HELP of Southern Nevada is the administrator of the funds, which means the funds are sent to HELP and not to Legal Aid Center. HELP pays the vendor directly or provides a gift card for program integrity. Since the fund was established in 2008, Legal Aid Center has gifted happiness and smiles to over 548 youth in foster care thanks to donations to this program.

The average annual amount needed to support this fund is $15,000. If you're interested in making an impact in the life of a child in foster care, please click here to make a donation.
